Healthy Living in Santa Monica

Santa Monica is a sunny beach town along the coast with a world famous pier that attracts tourists and locals from the Los Angeles area. Its proximity to the beach makes it a great destination for adventure and diverse dining experiences that make the town so unique. This urban classic beach town has been located along the beach for over a hundred years with great business and structural innovations. It has changed from a small wooden boardwalk to a more integrated landmark in Los Angeles. In 2009, the Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corp. and the Route 66 Alliance agreed that the pier would be the official “stopping point” of Route 66 (Atlas Obscura). Since then, the pier has grown more expansive with a variety of unique experiences and businesses attracting more people to “the end of the road.”

A few miles up Ocean Park Boulevard is a yoga studio known as Santa Monica Yoga. The studio is known for having a wide variety of classes in exercise such as yoga for pregnant women, pilates, and classes for beginners. Yoga is a great form of exercise that promotes deep breathing and healthy lifestyles and this studio emphasizes these in every class. It is clear to see why the studio has done so well in Santa Monica --- a small community that is big on promoting healthy lifestyles. For a small business, the studio does well to serve the Santa Monica locals and helps those looking for another exercise alternative. In addition to living an active, healthy lifestyle, residents of Santa Monica also have options in eating healthy balanced meals with many restaurants in this coastal town.

The restaurant scene in the beach town is quite diversified including many different cuisines to choose from. A new concept that is becoming more and more popular in the restaurant industry is “farm-to-table” menus in which food is grown locally and bought directly from the farmer. Many places in Santa Monica execute this concept throughout their menus. The Curious Palate, located on Santa Monica Place, a few blocks from the pier, has menus with farm-to-table ingredients and supports farmers in Southern California. Another restaurant known as Mendocino Farms practices sustainable eating through its commitment to “unpretentious love of thoughtfully crafted food and drink” (Mendocino Farms). The restaurants throughout the Los Angeles area believe in a welcoming, home-style meal for their guests. Residents who choose to have a healthy and active lifestyle will feel at home in Santa Monica because there are plenty of dining experiences and recreation activities that cater to them. The sunny weather and quaint charm are rich and attractive throughout Santa Monica.
